The shiny golden Gongen-no OntachiAn odachi (very long sword) from around the middle of the Kamakura period, which "must not be pulled from its sheath, because it is god's sword."
The sword was thought to be a katashiro of Zao Gongen, the principal image of Buddha at Musashi-Mitake-jinja Shrine, so it is also known by the name Gongen-no Ontachi.

*A katashiro is an object that represents a divine spirit.

The entire sword is curved with the exception of the hilt. The hilt and sheath have religious engravings of lotus pedestals.

*A lotus pedestal is a pedestal in the shape of a lotus flower on which a statue of Buddha is placed.
